IMPORTANT INFORMATION
FOR USERS UPGRADING FROM FontManager version 1.1
*********************************************************************
For users upgrading from version 1.1 to 1.13, there are several
small changes which must be made to your WIN.INI file before version
1.13 will be usable. You may either manually make the changes
yourself as shown below, or there is a program CONVERT.EXE included
with this upload that will make the changes for you. Once CONVERT.EXE
has successfully run, it may be deleted. It is a windows app and
must be run from windows. It creates a backup of win.ini named
WINFMGR.BAK in case something goes south during the process.
UPGRADING USERS: Your library master file and all font paks are still
valid with version 1.13. You do NOT need to re-install FontManager.
Just replace your existing FONTMGR.EXE file with the new one, run
CONVERT.EXE and have at it.
NEW USERS SHOULD NOT RUN CONVERT.EXE. IF YOU ARE A NEW USER,
SIMPLY DELETE IT AND FORGET THAT IT EVER EXISTED. As a matter
of fact, new users can ignore this readme file altogether and go
directly to the user guide.
What changes does CONVERT.EXE make?
1. Removes the semi-colon (;) from the beginning of any
FontPakInstalled={fontpak_name} lines at the beginning of the
softfont sections in win.ini. Check each printer port for this
line if making manual modifications.
2. Adds an application section for FontManger to WIN.INI that
looks like:
[FONTMANAGER]
FontManager=Installed
FMDIR={drive:\path\FONT_MGR}
For example, if the FONT_MGR directory is currently located at
C:\FONT_MGR, the 3rd line would be C:\FONT_MGR. The first two
lines should already exist in your WIN.INI file. If not, they
are created.
WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 1.13?
1. The usual bug fixes from user reported problems.
2. The update process has been changed to update by directory
instead of by entire drive, thus making it faster.
3. A check for duplicate .PFM files has been added to the initial
setup routine.
4. You will receive a warning message anytime FontManager
installs 120 or more fonts on a printer port.
5. Speed keys have been added to the menus.
6. You can launch Control Panel directly from the main files menu.
7. The \FONT_MGR directory can now be placed anywhere at initial
installation. Current users may relocate the FONT_MGR
directory as long as the FMDIR= line in the FONTMANAGER app
section of win.ini is revised to the new drive:\path\FONT_MGR.
All of these changes are documented in the User Guide.
